Englewood, CO – May 14, 2008 – Gevo, Inc. announced today that Mark Noetzel has joined the company’s Board of Directors.
Mr. Noetzel has been serving as Chief Executive Officer and President of Cilion, Inc., a new biofuels company, since August 2007. He is also a member of Cilion’s Board of Directors. Prior to joining Cilion, Mr. Noetzel was with British Petroleum (BP) and Amoco for 26 years, leading multi-billion dollar businesses in the fuels and chemical industry in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
“Gevo’s advanced biofuels technology could play a critical role in helping achieve our future energy needs,” said Noetzel. “Butanol has great potential and I am excited about contributing to the commercialization of this new technology as a member of Gevo’s board of directors.”
“Mr. Noetzel’s long track record of success in the petroleum industry is a significant benefit to Gevo’s commercialization efforts,” said Dr. Pat Gruber, CEO of Gevo. “His overall experience in the petroleum industry is a tremendous asset to Gevo.”
As a Group Vice President, Noetzel was responsible for leading BP’s $65 billion revenue retail operations and fuels transport and wholesaling in the U.S., Europe and Asia. He also served as a member of the Refining and Marketing Senior Executive Team, which provided strategic leadership to BP’s worldwide downstream operations and developed executive talent.
Mr. Noetzel directed major parts of BP’s portfolio for a decade, having been named a Group Vice President in 1996. Previously, he was Group Vice President with responsibility for BP’s Fuels Operations in China, Africa and Australasia, and the aviation businesses, and prior to that in BP and Amoco’s chemical businesses across a broad range of chemical manufacturing and marketing activities. Mr. Noetzel was instrumental in the growth of BP’s chemical business in East Asia, where he lived for almost six years.
“Gevo is an exciting company” said Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures. “I am pleased that Mark Noetzel, with all of his British Petroleum experience, has joined the board of directors and I look forward to the invaluable contributions he will make.”
Formed in 2005, Gevo is dedicated to bringing renewable cost-effective alternatives for fossil fuels and chemicals to consumers worldwide. “Our goal is to meet increasing energy demands while reducing our impact on the earth,” said Gruber. “We will accomplish this by converting renewable resources into fuels and green chemicals.” For more information about Gevo, Inc. please visit www.gevo.com.
